Avatar Grove é mais uma opção na llha de Vancouver no Canadá para quem gosta de fazer trilha. Localizado próximo a pequena cidade de Port Renfrew, cerca de duas horas e meia de carro a partir do centro de Victoria. / Avatar Grove is one more option on the Vancouver Island for those who enjoy going hiking. Located near the small town of Port Renfrew, about a two and a half hour drive from Victoria’s downtown.

Esta magnífica floresta foi declarada fora dos limites à exploração madeireira em 2012. The Ancient Forest Alliance está na vanguarda de resgatar e proteger esta área de 50 hectares de floresta em recuperação, onde o visitante pode apreciar árvores gigantes. Avatar Grove está crescendo lentamente como um destino para fazer trilhas. / This magnificent forest was declared off limits to logging in 2012. The Ancient Forest Alliance is at the forefront of rescuing and protecting this area of 50 hectares of old growth forest, where visitors can enjoy giant trees. Avatar Grove is slowly growing into a hiking destination.

Tem duas trilhas: a Upper Avatar Grove (Canada’s Gnarliest Tree) que dura cerca de 30 minutes. A outra trilha é chamada Lower Avatar Grove e leva de 1h ~ 2h dependendo do seu ritmo. O grau de dificuldade de ambas é médio. O local é barrento, então indico usar hiking boots. Se você não tiver hiking boots vá com uma tênis mais “velinho”. / It has two trails: the Upper Avatar Grove (Canada’s gnarliest Tree) that takes about 30 minutes. The other trail is called Lower Avatar Grove and takes 1h ~ 2h depending on your pace. Both trail are of moderate difficulty. The terrain is muddy, so wear hiking boots. If you do not have a pair of hiking boots wear old shoes.

Como o lugar é no meio da natureza, traga água e algo para comer, pois não há comércios próximos na região. Lembre-se de trazer uma sacolinha para recolher seu lixo! 😉 / As the place is surrounded by nature, bring water and something to eat because there are no restaurants or grocery stores nearby. Remember to bring a bag to collect your garbage! 😉

Como chegar:

1. Dirija até Port Renfrew ao longo da West Coast Hwy # 14.
2. Imediatamente quando chegar a Port Renfrew vire à direita para Deering Road, ZERE seu odômetro.
3. No 0,2 km atravesse uma ponte longa ao longo do rio San Juan.
4. No 1,4 km vire à esquerda.
5. Em 2,7 km passe por um prédio vermelho onde fica o West Coast Trail Hiker Registration à sua esquerda.
6. No 3,9 km vire à esquerda e cruze uma outra ponte.
7. Na 4,3 km vire à esquerda no entroncamento na extremidade da ponte.
8. No 4,7 km passe pelo entroncamento Pasheeda Shores à sua esquerda.
9. No 5,3 km passe por outro entrocamento para Port Renfrew Marina à sua esquerda.
10. No 9,3 km vire à esquerda na placa Braden Main.
11. No 9,5 km atravesse a terceira ponte que tem uma vista incrível.
12. No 10,4 km vire à direita.
13. No 11,0 km passar o pouco sinal 42K branco.
14. No 11,2 km atravesse a pequena ponte e estacione imediatamente à sua direita. Procure a placa e escadas que indicam  Avatar Grove.

How to get there:

1. Drive to Port Renfrew along West Coast Hwy #14.  (2.5 hours from Victoria and excellent signs direct you the whole way).

2. Immediately upon reaching Port Renfrew turn RIGHT onto Deering Rd, ZERO YOUR ODOMETER.

3. At 0.2km cross a long one lane bridge over the San Juan River.

4. At 1.4km bear left.

5. At 2.7km pass the red West Coast Trail hiker registration building on your left.

6. At 3.9km bear left and cross another large, one lane bridge.

7. At 4.3km turn left at the T junction at the end of the bridge.

8. At 4.7km pass the turnoff to Pasheeda Shores on your left.

9. At 5.3km pass the turnoff to Port Renfrew Marina on your left.

10. At 9.3km bear left at the Braden Main sign.

11. At 9.5km cross a third large, one lane bridge, this one with incredible views.

12. At 10.4km bear right.

13. At 11.0km pass the little white 42K sign.

14. At 11.2km cross the little bridge and immediately park on your right.  From where you parked, look for the Upper Avatar Grove trailhead sign and stairs ascending into the forest on the left side of the road.
